President's Report
September 2020

Cathy Fortunato, Lambda Chapter President

Welcome to Lambda’s 1st virtual meeting.
Welcome to our invited guests: DKGNJ State President Ingrid Williams, Epsilon Chapter President Betty Monaghan and 1st Vice President Patty Curtis, and the Epsilon sisters.

Welcome Lambda sisters!  It’s good to see all of you.
I want to open this meeting with a quote from past president Noreen McHale, “Our sisters certainly persevere and continue to impress. Lambda continues to stay so active; not even Covid can keep us down.”
I add a reason and a motto to Noreen’s quote, we are Sisters Standing Together.

Following our September theme last biennium of focusing on global education with presentations by our Fulbright Scholar, Jennifer Laster, who shared her experiences as an educator in Guyana and then the following year her experiences in Peru…

We are fortunate to have our sister, Maria Sell present a program on global education and her personal experience as a teacher in Tanzania, Africa. (Power Point Presentation)

President’s Report:
First and foremost, I want to recognize 3 remarkable women from our last biennium: Co-presidents Barbara Glazewski and Joan Stuart and Treasurer Marcia Barnett.  Thank you for your dedication and leadership.  Please unmute your microphones and join me in gratitude by applauding these 3 Lambda sisters.

Lambda Chapter News

Communication: It is the key to success this year.  Lambda Chapter has been up and running, connecting with each other in a variety of ways by using: emails, personal phone calls, postal mail, virtual meetings, the Lambda website at dkgnjlambda.com, phone conferencing with committees, and having small group meetings outdoors on home patios, in a park, and even poolside.

The next Lambda business meeting will be held via Zoom on December 3, 2020 at 6:30 pm.
I can assure you as sisters we will connect in various ways throughout this year. One day we will all be able to gather together again in person.  It will happen.

Leadership Team: Sincere thanks for all those who were able to accept the chairperson positions once again.  Thanks to the 6 relatively newly inducted members who joined the leadership team: Linda Walton, Melva Bruce, Jennifer Laster, Teresa Morelli, Felicia Querrey, and Maria Sell.

Gratitude: Opportunities for individual donations will be offered this biennium to support Dina’s Dwelling in New Brunswick and Jason’s Memorial Run in Hillsborough.  None of the gifts or donations come from our treasury or fundraising efforts.  The support comes directly from our Lambda sisters as much as their financial means and hearts allow.  Thank you for your overwhelming response and generous support.

My Vision for the 2020-2022 biennium is to support local education with an award presented to an upcoming educator entering our noble profession supported by treasury funds and donations from sisters,

And as a service project, to support global education by helping fund female school children in Tanzania, Africa using profit funds from fundraisers only and not from our treasury bank account.

Continuing to support our local community, as a second service project, we will once again help supply the James O. Bryant Food Pantry with funds for food and donations of books for their library.

With your support this year we can present the educator award and support the 2 service projects as Sisters Standing Together.

Stay Positive!
