Remembering Mary Ann Liscinski Mironchik
|
Born in Perth Amboy and moving as a youngster with her family to the Iselin section of Woodbridge Township and having graduated from Woodbridge High School in 1954, MaryAnn then attended Trenton State College to pursue her dream and earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Education. Striving and dreaming and wanting to aid all learners, Mary Ann continued her studies, earning a Master of Arts degree in Education from Seton Hall University. Combining her love for travel with her passion to teach, Mary Ann worked for the United Stated Department of Defense and taught elementary school age children in both Germany and Japan.
In 1971, Mary Ann married her best friend, Walter Mironchik, and they relocated to Kingwood Township, where Mary Ann began her long career in education. Serving that school district in may capacities including Director of Special Education and school Principal, a wing in the main school building of that township was named in honor of Mary Ann upon her retirement.
Mary Ann and Walt enjoyed their travels and visited many states within our nation in their RV/camper, making friends everywhere they went. She enjoyed gardening, anything that involved music, and they were very involved with their church. Lambda members remember fondly and with great appreciation her home baked cookies at many events.
Mary Ann was initiated into the Gamma Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma in 1967 and two years later became a Founder and Charter Member of Lambda Chapter (1969), where she served in many leadership roles, culminating as Chapter President (1976-78). Her leadership skills were quickly recognized beyond the chapter level, and Mary Ann began moving through the state leadership chairs and ultimately served as the Alpha Zeta State President (1985-1987). Throughout the years, Mary Ann attended many DKG regional conferences and international conventions, bringing new ideas back to Alpha Zeta State and helping our state organization to thrive and grow. During her
state presidency, Rho Chapter was organized (April 1986), and eventually, Mary Ann would transfer her membership to that chapter, being closer to home. She, then, served as the fifth president (1998-2000) of her new chapter, Rho.
Mary Ann’s devotion to education and strong leadership skills undoubtedly inspired many young women. She enriched the lives of those she taught and those with whom she worked. Throughout her long career in education, as well as her many years of membership in Delta Kappa Gamma, Mary Ann embodied the true ideals of Delta Kappa Gamma: friendship, loyalty, and helpfulness.
Though she now is gone, she has left us with wonderful memories of a life well served and a life well lived.
In friendship and loving memory,
Marilyn E. Gonyo, Ed.D.
